MailScale

About

Three people, one conviction: the list is not the audience.

MailScale is a Seattle email agency built around a pattern we kept meeting: lists where a thin engaged slice produced the revenue while the brand paid to mail everyone else into the spam folder. The fix is never a prettier template. It is knowing who buys, and rebuilding the program around them.

Why we start with the audience

Most agencies begin with output: more campaigns, new templates, a bigger calendar. We begin with a two-week audit because the data keeps proving the calendar innocent. One meal-kit brand we audited was sending 64% of its volume to profiles that had not opened or clicked in 120 days or more. Gmail and Yahoo read that silence as a reputation signal, and both enforce a 0.3% spam-complaint ceiling on bulk senders. No template survives that math.

So the work runs in a fixed order: map engagement and revenue per segment, repair placement where it is broken, then build flows and growth on top. The sequence, the deliverables, and the fees are public, on the process and pricing pages, because a client who knows exactly what happens in week three is a better client.

What we hold ourselves to

  • Reporting in revenue per recipient and placed-order rate, the same units as Klaviyo's public benchmarks. Opens are a diagnostic, not a result.
  • A/B tests run two full cycles against your own baseline before we call a winner.
  • Complaint alerts fire at 0.1%, a third of Google's enforcement line, so problems surface while they are still cheap.
  • Everything we build lives in your ESP account from day one. Clients who leave keep every segment, flow, and document.

The team

Small on purpose. Every account is handled by the three people below, not routed to a pod you never meet.

Maren Holt, Founder & Principal Strategist at MailScale

Maren Holt

Founder & Principal Strategist · Seattle

Maren has run lifecycle email for subscription and membership brands for 11 years, on lists as large as 400,000 subscribers. She started MailScale after watching too many programs report open rates while revenue slid, and she still leads the audience strategy on every engagement. Klaviyo Product Certified.

Theo Ramaker, Lifecycle Automation Lead at MailScale

Theo Ramaker

Lifecycle Automation Lead · Tacoma

Theo has spent 8 years building Klaviyo and Braze automation for ecommerce and app brands, and he owns the deliverability repair work: authentication, suppression design, and the seed-test cadence. When a migration is in scope, he runs the 30-day overlap. Klaviyo Product Certified.

June Park, Audience Data Analyst at MailScale

June Park

Audience Data Analyst · Seattle

June builds the models the strategy stands on: the RFM tiers, the engagement scores that recompute continuously, and the testing program that holds every A/B result to two full cycles. Six years in marketing analytics taught her to distrust any metric that cannot be tied to an order.
